The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued His Royal Highness, Friday Ehizojie, the traditional ruler of Udo-Eguare community in Igueben Local Government Area, who was abducted on February 3.
The Onogie of Udo-Eguare was kidnapped in a forest between Ubiaja and Udo while traveling on a commercial motorcycle.
The assailants tragically shot and killed the motorcycle rider during the attack.
Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that the monarch was freed on Friday following sustained search and rescue operations involving security agencies and local vigilantes.
“The command is pleased to inform the public that our continuous efforts have yielded positive results,” Yamu said.
He also commended the Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, for keeping her pledge to ensure the monarch’s safe return.
The operation, he noted, was facilitated by logistical support from Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Yamu expressed appreciation to the vigilantes, hunters, and community members who played crucial roles in the rescue mission.
He reiterated the police command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
