Activist Shows Solidarity as Seaking Faces Detention Over Alleged Cyberbullying of Pastor Adeboye
Renowned activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has demonstrated an act of compassion by giving his own shirt to social media critic Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as Seaking, who is currently in police custody over allegations of cyberbullying Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
Seaking was arrested in Lagos and transferred to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) facility in Abuja, where he has been detained for days. During a visit on Sunday evening, Sowore and a companion, Tope Temokun, met with the detainee to check on his well-being.
During their conversation, Sowore asked Seaking what he needed. The detainee expressed concern about his fellow inmates, saying he wished to buy loaves of bread to help them cope with hunger.
He also lamented that he had been wearing the same shirt since his arrest.
Moved by his situation, one of the visitors offered to go outside and buy him some shirts.
However, in an unexpected gesture, Sowore decided to take immediate action.
In the presence of onlooking officers, Sowore removed his undershirt and handed it over to Seaking, promising to get another one once he left the facility. The officers reportedly watched in amazement as the activist made the selfless donation.
Seaking’s arrest has also ignited debates about free speech and the extent of legal consequences for online criticism.
