The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations to sponsor a mass wedding for 300 couples, scheduled for February 27, 2025.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday, February 9, in Birnin Kebbi.

He stated that the initiative is being organized in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).

To ensure the well-being of the couples, Argungu noted that various committees have been established to oversee medical screenings, including pregnancy tests, genotype tests, and HIV/AIDS tests, as part of the lawful prerequisites for marriage in the state.

The mass wedding aligns with Governor Nasir Idris’ promise to hold such events periodically to support the less privileged in getting married.

As part of the sponsorship, the state government will provide N180,000 as dowry for each bride, totaling N54 million for the 300 beneficiaries across Kebbi’s 21 Local Government Areas.

“Other additional items will be provided, such as room furniture and foodstuffs, to all the couples to consolidate their marital relationship,” Argungu added.
