The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered that no police operative should be seen carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire.

He also issued a strong warning against human rights violations, emphasizing the Force’s duty to uphold citizens’ rights.

Egbetokun made these declarations during a virtual meeting with strategic police managers on Saturday, February 10.

The meeting, according to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, was aimed at reinforcing operational discipline and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.

During the session, the IGP addressed several critical issues, including ethical conduct, professionalism, and compliance with standard operating procedures.

He reiterated that any officer found violating human rights would face severe consequences.

The IGP also cautioned all tactical squads against misuse of power and improper dressing, stressing that operatives must always wear their approved uniforms while on duty.

He further prohibited the indiscriminate transfer of cases without his written approval, stating that such actions cause unnecessary delays and burdens for affected parties.

Egbetokun concluded by directing all police ranks to work collaboratively in preventing any acts that could tarnish the image of the Force, urging officers to uphold integrity and professionalism in their operations.
