Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday, February 9, when gunmen attacked the residence of a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor, Ifeji Ausin Oha, in the Gwagwalada area of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, near Abuja.
During the attack, the assailants killed the pastor’s 17-year-old son, Augustine Onyechisoka Evans, and abducted his wife.
Reports indicate that Ifeji Oha suffered machete wounds but managed to escape, prompting the kidnappers to seize his wife.
According to sources, the pastor’s son attempted to defend his mother but was shot by the assailants, who also inflicted multiple machete wounds on him in the presence of his siblings.
The attackers later demanded a ransom of ₦30 million for the pastor’s wife.
A source close to the family described the deceased as the only son among five children, adding that his intervention in the assault on his mother led to his death.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Rahman Nansel, stated that the command was not yet aware of the attack.
Meanwhile, the late Augustine Onyechisoka Evans is set to be buried on February 19, 2025, in his hometown, Mgbidi, Enugu State.
