A businesswoman, Woye Ella, has approached the FCT Customary Court in Garki, seeking the dissolution of her marriage over an alleged attempt by her husband to set her on fire.

In her petition, Ella accused her husband, identified as Joseph, of violent tendencies, stating that he often reacted aggressively over minor issues. She claimed he had previously chased her with dangerous objects such as a screwdriver and a knife.

“It got to a point where he poured petrol on me, intending to set me on fire. It was my neighbours who saved my life that day,” she told the court.

According to her, Joseph was restrained by neighbors and subsequently detained at a police station for four days before his father intervened. She further alleged that he had no reasonable explanation for his actions.

Fearing for her life, Ella said she moved out of their home and is now requesting the court to compel Joseph to vacate the property, which she claims to have built herself.

However, Joseph, a tiler, denied all the allegations.

Presiding judge Festus Enomhonse has adjourned the case to February 24 for further hearing.
