Nigerian Troops Eliminate Notorious Bandit Leader Kamilu Buzaro in Katsina
Nigerian troops from the 17 Brigade, in collaboration with the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji, have successfully neutralized a notorious bandit leader, Kamilu Chiroma, popularly known as Buzaro, along with several of his fighters in Katsina State.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday, February 17, targeted a major bandit hideout following actionable intelligence and reconnaissance efforts.
According to security sources, Buzaro and his gang had fortified themselves in the hills, armed with sophisticated weapons, preparing to resist any security intervention.
Renowned counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the details of the mission on Tuesday, citing intelligence sources.
He revealed that surveillance drones were deployed to monitor the criminals’ movements, confirming their defensive positions.
Upon verification, coordinated airstrikes were launched, catching the bandits off guard and causing significant casualties among their ranks.
In the aftermath of the aerial bombardment, ground forces swiftly moved in to clear the area, engaging and neutralizing any remaining threats. Reports indicate that multiple motorcycles used by the gang were destroyed, alongside a cache of weapons.
A top military official described the operation as a “major breakthrough,” stating that it dealt a significant blow to banditry in the region.
Security analysts believe Buzaro’s elimination will disrupt criminal activities in Katsina and its neighboring states, reinforcing ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability.
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to intensifying counter-terrorism operations, urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces in the fight against banditry and insurgency.
