Police Rescue Kidnap Victim Chained with Padlocks in Niger Forest

The Niger State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim, Nasiru Idris, who was found chained to his neck and hands with padlocks in a forest in Mariga.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, February 21, 2025.

He revealed that Idris was abducted from Kebbi State and was later abandoned by his captors upon sighting police patrol teams.

“On February 16, 2025, at about 4 pm, a police tactical squad led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘A’ Division, Kontagora, was on a routine confidence-building patrol along the Bangi-Kontagora road.

During the patrol, officers found a suspected victim in the forest, chained to his neck and hands with padlocks. He was identified as Nasiru Idris,” the statement read.

The victim recounted that he was kidnapped from Farin-Ruwa, Bena, in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. His abductors, upon sighting the police, abandoned him and fled the scene.

Idris was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention while efforts to locate his relatives and further investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The Niger State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents acrossthe state.
