Friends and family have been thrown into mourning following the death of Safe Na’andak Pankyes, a young Nigerian woman from Plateau State, who passed away just months after making a heartfelt social media post about being celebrated in life rather than in death.
Safe, who got married to her husband, Pankyes Galak, on March 30, 2024, had taken to Facebook on September 4, 2024, to express her thoughts on how people often wait until someone has passed before showing love and support.
In the viral post, she wrote:
“A day will come when my pictures will fly all over social media tagged RIP. Both those I’ve impacted directly or indirectly will shed natural and artificial tears. Only myself will be buried in a dark, shallow, breathless space. People who had the opportunity to help, impact me positively, and show love to me but didn’t, will come out making contributions to plan a burial ceremony for me. Please, celebrate me now that I’m alive because when I go down, I wouldn’t be here to see all that you will do when I die. Thank you once again.”
Her words have since taken on a deeper significance, as family members and friends confirmed her passing in emotional Facebook posts on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
Many have expressed shock over the coincidence between her post and her untimely demise, with tributes pouring in to honor her memory.
