Lagos State is set to take steps toward regulating outrageous house rents and related fees, following a similar move by the Enugu State Government to cap excessive rental charges.

This was disclosed by Jubril A. Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, via his official handle on

Gawat shared a copy of a bill currently under consideration by the Enugu State House of Assembly, which seeks to limit excessive rent demands in the Southeast state.

In his post, he hinted that Lagos might soon implement a similar policy, writing:

“Lagos … Coming Soon. A very strong issue but must be well discussed and implemented, after deliberation by the Lagos House of Assembly.”

The rising cost of accommodation in Lagos has been a major concern for residents, with many struggling to meet the demands of multi-year rent payments, agency fees, and other charges.

If Lagos follows Enugu’s lead, it could mark a significant shift in housing policies, potentially offering relief to millions of tenants facing high rental costs.
