The ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has announced his return to office, declaring that he has resumed his position as Speaker.
Obasa made this declaration on Tuesday, February 27, after stepping into the Assembly complex for the first time since his impeachment on January 13. Accompanied by operatives of the Police and State Security Service (SSS), he asserted his authority.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa stated confidently.
His return comes after he was impeached by an overwhelming majority of lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Following his removal, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda was elected as Speaker, making history as the first female to hold the position in Lagos.
