Valentine Ozigbo, a close ally of Peter Obi and a prominent figure in the Obidient Movement, has stated that the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate is unlikely to run under the party’s platform in future elections.
Ozigbo, who supported Obi’s 2023 presidential bid, made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday. According to him, Obi has a history of switching political parties and is likely to seek a new platform if he contests in 2027.
“I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to run for election, it’s not going to be under Labour Party,” Ozigbo said.
“I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong.”
His remarks come just days after he resigned from LP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his commitment to a greater vision for Anambra State.
Ozigbo, a former chief executive officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria, also disclosed that he informed Obi of his decision out of respect for his leadership.
Reflecting on his political journey, Ozigbo recalled his time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he participated in what he described as a “fair and transparent” primary election under the leadership of Uche Secondus.
However, he noted that internal shifts in the party’s leadership affected its performance over time.
Secondus led the PDP’s National Working Committee from December 2017 until his suspension in 2021.
