The Nigerian Senate has officially taken up a petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following its resubmission by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had initially submitted the petition alleging sexual harassment and abuse of office by Akpabio. However, it was rejected on Wednesday due to her personal signature, instead of that of her constituents.
In compliance with Senate rules, the revised petition was signed by her constituents and resubmitted on Thursday.
During the plenary session, the Senate inquired whether the allegations were already before a court of law, to which Akpoti-Uduaghan responded in the negative.
Following this, she was directed to formally submit the petition, which was then referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct.
