Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has stated that he still has three more years to complete his tenure, except he is “poisoned.”
The governor made this remark on Tuesday, March 11, during a meeting with political leaders from the Imo East Senatorial District, popularly known as Owerri Zone, under the aegis of the Owerri Harmony Project, held at the Government House in Owerri.
Speaking on the future of the state and the need for continuity in governance, Uzodimma emphasized that while he cannot solve all of Imo State’s challenges during his time in office, his successor must be courageous and well-prepared to sustain the progress made.
“I will not solve all the problems in Imo. I will do the ones I can do, but the man coming after me should be able to do some. We will support merit. We must look for merit because we need a man who is courageous,” he said.
He recalled the early challenges of insecurity that marked the beginning of his administration, noting that his government had been able to navigate through them with resilience and focus.
“We need a well-focused, bold, courageous man—someone who is not a troublemaker but will stand firm when it matters most,” he added, stressing the importance of leadership with strength and clarity of purpose.
Uzodimma also warned political stakeholders to be cautious of external influences ahead of future elections, urging them to prioritize the collective interest over personal ambitions.
“Very soon, external forces will approach you, tell you that you are the best candidate for governor, and even offer incentives. But after the elections, they will abandon you,” he cautioned.
While noting that he was not yet discussing politics, Uzodimma urged the leaders to begin consultations and reconciliation efforts in preparation for a united political front. “Politics should be pursued with love and understanding, not confrontation,” he concluded
