The Ekiti State Government has approved the recruitment of 1,800 teaching and non-teaching staff into public secondary schools across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, stating that the move is part of efforts to address staffing gaps in the education sector.
According to him, the recruitment exercise is a continuous process designed to fill vacancies created by staff abscondment, resignation, the Japa syndrome, and mandatory or voluntary retirements due to age or length of service.
Olatunbosun noted that about 170 teaching staff are expected to exit the public service before the end of the year.
He emphasized that a well-planned recruitment process remains crucial in preventing shortages that could hinder effective teaching and learning in schools.
Giving a breakdown of the new approval, the Commissioner revealed that 1,600 teaching positions will be filled, comprising 1,066 degree holders and 534 National Certificate of Education (NCE) holders.
Additionally, approval has been granted for the employment of 200 non-teaching staff.
He further assured that the recruitment exercise would be conducted strictly on merit, with successful candidates to be deployed to 192 public secondary schools across the state, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.
