Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has once again written to the Rivers State House of Assembly, proposing Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., or any other time convenient for the House, for the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
The development comes amid continued political tensions between the executive and legislative arms in the state.
In the letter addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Governor Fubara referenced his earlier attempt to present the budget on March 12, which was thwarted as he was denied access to the Assembly premises.
The governor emphasized that his action was in line with a recent Supreme Court judgment, which he said reaffirmed the constitutional roles of all arms of government, including the legislature.
Fubara also reminded the Speaker of the Assembly’s earlier 48-hour ultimatum for the presentation of the budget, which he noted came even before he received the certified true copy of the court’s judgment and enrolled orders.
He called on all arms of government to operate strictly within constitutional boundaries, stressing that the interests of the state and its people must supersede political differences.
“No matter the depth of our differences, we believe the interests of the state and our people should take priority over political conflicts,” Governor Fubara stated in the letter
