Nigerian political analyst and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has openly declared his mission to dismantle the Obidient Movement, a group of supporters backing Peter Obi.
Speaking in an interview with News Central on Thursday, March 27, Omokri claimed that he played a key role in Obi’s political rise, particularly in securing his position as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election.
“I took a vow to destroy that movement because Peter Obi was a project of mine. I was responsible for Peter Obi becoming the running mate to Waziri Atiku Abubakar in 2019. I’ve said this publicly. I’ve got the documents. I’m a meticulous record keeper,” Omokri stated.
He alleged that the hostility he faced from members of the Obidient Movement escalated beyond social media attacks, turning into real-life threats against his family.
“Peter Obi’s movement, Obidients, started attacking me, threatening me, insulting me. That was OK. But then they moved from myself to my family. I just had a daughter at that time. There were multiple death threats,” he said.
Omokri further alleged that some individuals tracked his movements in the United Kingdom, even following him and his wife during their jogging routines.
“They came to my house in the United Kingdom. They trailed my wife and me when we were jogging. They found out my jogging route and pursued me, threatening me,” he disclosed.
According to him, Peter Obi failed to intervene or address the alleged threats, which led to his resolve to take down the movement using his political influence.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has yet to publicly respond to Omokri’s allegations.
