Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has taken a swipe at Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, accusing him of running the state with propaganda rather than delivering tangible achievements.
Sowore, a native of Kiribo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, expressed his concerns during a television interview, stating that the current administration had failed to make significant progress since Aiyedatiwa assumed office following the demise of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
According to the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, the governance style in Ondo State has been more about perception management than real development.
He also pointed out that his younger brother, Allen Sowore, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategic Media, was part of the government’s propaganda machinery.
“I have a very sad story to tell about my state, Ondo State. Before the current governor (Lucky Aiyedatiwa) came and won his last election or selection, we were the ones who fought the former governor (Oluwarotimi Akeredolu), who is now late, when his family tried to hijack power.
The expectation was that the new governor, who was then the acting governor, would hit the ground running,” Sowore remarked.
He lamented the security challenges in the state, citing the lack of adequate police patrol vehicles, poor road infrastructure, and increasing criminal activities.
“The criminals in Ondo State operate in places they know there are no access roads, making it easy for them to escape,” he said.
Sowore also criticized the state government’s approach to education, arguing that Ondo should be offering free education rather than bursaries.
He noted that many schools in rural areas had been neglected, revealing that he personally supports teachers in his alma mater, Kiribo Community High School.
“They have abandoned all the schools; there is nothing to be proud of. My younger brother is part of the propaganda going on in Ondo State. I’m surprised that they didn’t even bring my younger brother to come and meet me here,” he added.
Highlighting concerns over security, infrastructure, and education, Sowore urged the government to focus on real governance rather than public relations.
“Tell yourselves the truth; you are not doing well. We cannot have an Ondo State where people are getting kidnapped during the daytime. There are no access roads; even when they try to do it, they do a little bit, and the rest is more propaganda. There is nobody who is going to eat propaganda in the state,” he asserted.
