U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred controversy by suggesting he would like to run against Barack Obama, despite constitutional limits preventing a third presidential term.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, Trump claimed that Americans want him to remain in office beyond the two-term limit set by the U.S. Constitution.

When asked about the prospect of a presidential race against Obama—who served from 2009 to 2017—Trump responded enthusiastically, saying, “That would be a good one, I’d like that.”

The 78-year-old Republican, who served from 2017 to 2021, continues to hint at the possibility of a third term, despite clear legal restrictions. In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, he insisted he was “not joking” about the idea.

Trump was sworn in for his second term on January 20, 2025, following his controversial return to the White House.
