The Coalition of Rescue Support Groups in Zamfara has applauded Governor Dauda Lawal for identifying and expunging 2,363 ghost workers from the state’s payroll, a move that has saved Zamfara approximately ₦200 million monthly.
In a statement signed by Alhaji Rufai Ahmed Gusau, the coalition’s state coordinator, the group praised the governor’s efforts, emphasizing that the financial recovery has facilitated the implementation of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage for civil servants.
“It’s a departure from the vicious cycle of salary bondage imposed on workers by previous administrations in the state,” the statement read.
The coalition highlighted that only genuine and hardworking employees would now be recognized and rewarded.
Following the verification exercise, 28,273 workers were cleared, while those fraudulently receiving ₦193,642,097.19 in wages were removed from the system.
“With these funds redirected, Zamfara is set to experience a new phase of prosperity, ensuring improved service delivery and better standards of living for government employees,” the statement added.
The coalition further described the move as a step towards restoring transparency in governance and liberating the state from “political hirelings and reactionary forces” that have hindered its development.
“With improved security and economic activities, Zamfara people now enjoy the dividends of democracy and good governance. This is what democracy is all about.”
The group also called on workers, union leaders, and opposition parties to support the government in its efforts to drive reforms, promote progress, and enhance development in the state.
