The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to addressing the growing security challenges in Benue State and other parts of the country.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi on Tuesday, Ribadu expressed concern over the increasing wave of violence that has led to the loss of over 120 lives in recent weeks.
He commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his proactive steps in confronting the insecurity ravaging parts of the state, while also cautioning against individuals or groups exploiting the situation for personal or political gain.
“We are fully committed to supporting the Governor in tackling insecurity and will continue to stand with him to defeat this menace,” Ribadu said.
The NSA emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the situation in Benue and has mandated him to reassure the people of the federal government’s unwavering support.
“The President has directed me to reaffirm his determination to eliminate this threat. We cannot allow this to persist,” he stated.
Ribadu also appealed for the cooperation of all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society groups, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through unity and collaboration.
His visit comes at a time when tensions are high across parts of the North Central region, with communities frequently targeted by armed groups.
He was received by Governor Alia, members of the National Assembly from the state, and other senior government officials.
