Former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea legend, John Obi Mikel, has voiced his strong desire to see Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen play in the English Premier League, amid growing speculation about his future.
Speaking on Soccer Sunday Live with beIN SPORTS, Mikel dismissed the possibility of Manchester United being a suitable destination for the Napoli striker, especially if the Red Devils fail to secure European football next season
“If that’s the case, then he doesn’t go to United,” Mikel said frankly, responding to reports of United’s interest in the 25-year-old forward.
Mikel, who shares a close bond with Osimhen, hinted that the player is keen on a move to Chelsea — a club Mikel represented with distinction for over a decade.
“I hope somewhere in the Premier League,” Mikel said. When pressed further, he added: “I don’t know; we wait and see.
However, the former midfielder did offer some inside scoop on Chelsea’s previous negotiations with Osimhen.
“I know where we stopped in terms of the contract, I know where we are,” he revealed. “It’s an easy fix. We did all the hard work last summer. It’s so easy to just pick it up.”
Osimhen, currently on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray from Napoli, has been in red-hot form, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists in just 25 league matches. His performance has reignited interest from top European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
While Osimhen’s next destination remains uncertain, one thing is clear — Mikel Obi is eager to see the Nigerian star shine in England’s top flight.
