The Presidency has dismissed as false and misleading the reports circulating on some media platforms alleging the sack of three key ministers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The reports, which went viral on Tuesday, claimed that the Ministers of Defence—Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and Mohammed Bello Matawalle—as well as the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had been relieved of their duties over non-performance.

However, in a swift response via his official X account, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, debunked the claims, describing them as fake news intended to mislead the public and cause unnecessary tension.

“Security agencies must urgently take action against fake news websites and platforms and the purveyors who fail to check the authenticity of the stories and make them go viral,” Onanuga stated.

He further stressed the dangers of misinformation, saying, “Press freedom and freedom of speech will not exist when some people can wake up and concoct their news and narratives without regard for truth. Fake news is simply licentiousness and must be criminalised.”
