Trump: I’m Not Running for a Third Term

United States President Donald Trump has declared he has no plans to seek a third term in office, citing constitutional restrictions that bar such a move.

Speaking during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump, 76, dismissed the notion of extending his presidency beyond 2028, despite earlier hints that had stirred speculation within political circles.

“I’m not looking at that,” he said. “So many people want me to do it. But to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do it. I don’t know if that’s constitutional… but that’s what I’ve heard.”

The U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment explicitly prohibits any individual from being elected president more than twice—a rule that would block Trump from contesting again after his current term ends.

Trump’s remarks come as part of a media tour marking his first 100 days in office during his second term, following his controversial return to the White House.

During the same interview, he deflected blame for the struggling economy and appeared uncertain about constitutional constraints around his immigration policies.

Despite persistent rumours, Trump signaled he intends to focus on completing his current mandate and grooming a Republican successor.

“I’m looking to have four great years and turning it over to somebody—ideally a great Republican—to carry it forward,” he said.

The statement is expected to calm fears among critics who worried Trump might attempt to test the limits of presidential power. Nonetheless, the coming years will reveal how firmly he adheres to that position.
