A 20-year-old Philadelphia man, Rahmir Ponzo, has been arrested and charged following a tragic incident in which a 2-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the stomach.
According to police reports, the toddler discovered a firearm in a bedroom and inadvertently discharged it around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, inside a home in Philadelphia.
Responding officers found the child critically injured and rushed him to the hospital for emergency treatment.
As of Tuesday, May 6, the boy remains in critical condition, authorities said.
Ponzo faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person. Police have yet to clarify his relationship to the injured toddler.
