The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps has arrested a man identified as Godwin, who was allegedly disguising as mentally unstable, after he was found with 27 SIM cards in the Epe area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the agency, the arrest followed persistent complaints from residents who had observed the suspect’s suspicious activities around a deserted building near the T-junction in Epe.
Locals reported that the man often changed his clothes in the early hours and engaged in late-night phone calls, raising concerns about his true identity and intentions.
“On May 5, during a routine patrol, officers were informed that the suspect was temporarily absent from his usual spot.
Acting on this information, the patrol team searched the area and discovered 27 registered SIM cards concealed inside a section of a block wall,” the statement said.
The suspect was later apprehended when he returned to the area.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to his identity and background but refused to disclose the whereabouts of any mobile devices that might be linked to the SIM cards.
A local food vendor who spoke with authorities confirmed the man’s erratic but sometimes coherent behavior, suggesting he may have been faking mental instability.
The suspect has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.
However, the Lagos State Police Command clarified that there is no evidence linking the suspect to kidnapping or any other major crime at this time.
