Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named the 2025 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year, following an exceptional season in the Premier League.
The Egyptian international clinched the prestigious award after receiving over 90% of the votes from the FWA’s 900-member panel, ahead of his teammate Virgil van Dijk, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.
Salah, 32, recorded 28 goals and 18 assists in 35 league appearances, playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign under new manager Arne Slot.
The club secured its 20th English top-flight title, equalling Manchester United’s all-time record.
This marks Salah’s third FWA win, equalling the record held by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
His consistent form and leadership on and off the pitch have earned widespread acclaim from journalists and analysts across the football world.
Virgil van Dijk, who finished second in the voting, was commended for his solid defensive contributions, while Alexander Isak placed third after scoring 26 goals in all competitions and helping Newcastle lift their first major trophy in 56 years.
Declan Rice’s performances in both the Premier League and Champions League earned him a commendable fourth-place finish.
Other players who received votes include Bruno Fernandes, Alexis Mac Allister, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, reflecting the depth of talent in English football this season.
