Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday, appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja as proceedings began on a contempt claim filed against her by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The hearing, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, follows Akpabio’s accusation that Senator Natasha flouted an existing court order, a move that escalated the legal tension between the two lawmakers.
Justice Nyako, while addressing both sides on Monday, announced that she would also entertain a separate contempt charge earlier filed by Senator Natasha against Akpabio, the Senate, and other individuals over an alleged violation of a prior court ruling.
At the resumed session, Senator Natasha’s lead counsel, Jibrin Okutekpa, informed the court that all parties had complied with directives to file relevant processes and were prepared to move forward with the case.
The legal battle stems from a series of political and legal disputes between the two senators, with the court now tasked with determining whether either party had disobeyed lawful judicial orders.
The matter was adjourned for further hearing, as both sides brace for what may become a significant ruling with broader implications for parliamentary conduct and respect for the judiciary.
