The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ruled out any possibility of contesting against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made this clear in a recent interview with BBC News Pidgin, putting to rest growing speculations following his recent remarks about the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the South.
The former Rivers State Governor’s comments had stirred political discussions, with many interpreting his stance as a potential move to launch a presidential bid.
However, Wike stated categorically that he has no such intentions.
“I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” he said, reinforcing his support for the Tinubu-led administration.
He also expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s position ahead of 2027, asserting that the opposition currently lacks the strength to defeat the incumbent.
“I will not contest again. I cannot contest against someone I am working with. Who will win except him?” he added.
