Former United States President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive and advanced form of prostate cancer, which has reportedly metastasized to his bones.
The announcement was made in a statement from his office on Monday, following weeks of medical evaluations.
According to the statement, Biden’s cancer is hormone-sensitive — a common variant that typically responds to hormone therapy aimed at reducing the body’s production of testosterone, which can fuel cancer growth.
The diagnosis follows a series of imaging scans and tests conducted after the 82-year-old began experiencing persistent back pain, fatigue, and difficulty with mobility.
Medical experts have confirmed that the cancer has spread beyond the prostate, now affecting several areas of his skeletal system.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer patients often presents significant treatment challenges and may involve a combination of therapies, including chemotherapy, radiation, and newer targeted treatments.
Despite the gravity of the diagnosis, Biden is said to be maintaining a positive outlook.
“He remains mentally sharp, engaged in daily activities, and is determined to approach this health challenge with strength and optimism,” a spokesperson noted. His team also confirmed that public appearances may be limited in the coming months as he focuses on his health.
