U.S. President Donald Trump has extended a message of support to former President Joe Biden following the announcement of his prostate cancer diagnosis.
In a post shared via his Truth Social platform, Trump, 78, reacted to the news on Sunday, May 18, by offering kind words to Biden and his family.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” he wrote. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
The message comes hours after President Biden’s personal office revealed that the 82-year-old had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
The statement, obtained by Wall Street Journal reporter Ken Thomas, disclosed that Biden had sought medical attention last week due to increasing urinary symptoms, which led to the discovery of a prostate nodule.
“On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
The diagnosis has sparked widespread reactions across the U.S. political landscape.
Among others, Vice President Kamala Harris and several lawmakers have expressed concern and sent messages of support to the President and his family.
