Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha has advised Victor Osimhen to consider extending his stay with Galatasaray following the striker’s highly successful loan spell at the Turkish club.
In a recent interview with Turkish broadcaster TRT Spor, as cited by Haberler, Okocha praised Turkey as a vibrant footballing nation and urged the Napoli striker to make the best decision for his career — even if it requires personal sacrifice.
“Turkey is a great place to play and live football,” Okocha said. “Sometimes, you may need to make sacrifices when making decisions in football. Osimhen had a great season at Galatasaray. Ultimately, he is happy there. Why shouldn’t he stay with the team? I love Turkey. He loves it too.”
The former Fenerbahçe midfielder, who spent two memorable years in the Turkish Süper Lig from 1996 to 1998, spoke glowingly about his own experience, highlighting the passionate fans and Turkish culture as part of what made his time special. “It was a wonderful two years,” he added. “The greatest is Fener.”
Asked about Osimhen’s future, Okocha admitted he had no insider information but expressed confidence in the 25-year-old’s judgment. “I don’t know where he will go next,” he said, “but wherever he decides to go, I wish him the best.”
Osimhen wrapped up a phenomenal season with Galatasaray by scoring his 37th goal in their 2–0 win over İstanbul Başakşehir on Saturday. His efforts helped the club clinch both the Turkish Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup, and he was also named Player of the Season and Süper Lig Top Scorer.
