A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has thrown a challenge at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging him to officially join the APC if he believes he remains politically relevant and influential.
Eze’s statement follows a recent media outburst by Wike, in which the former Rivers State governor lashed out at his predecessor, Chibuike Amaechi.
The clash was reignited after Amaechi remarked during his 60th birthday celebration that he was hungry— a comment interpreted as criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Reacting from Port Harcourt, Chief Eze questioned Wike’s political positioning and credibility, suggesting that his dual alignment with both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC indicates political indecisiveness.
“If he [Wike] thinks he’s a political asset, let him join the APC properly and face the likes of Akpabio, Uzodimma, Umahi, and Oshiomhole,” Eze said. “The party is waiting to cut his ego to size.”
Eze accused Wike of betrayal, claiming he had lost his political conscience and credibility by abandoning the PDP, the party that elevated him, while currying favour in the APC.
“You betrayed and destroyed the party that made you. Now, you praise Tinubu and APC, trying to reap where you didn’t sow,” he added.
Describing Wike as “a reservoir of blackmail, greed, envy, and ingratitude,” Eze maintained that the Minister has politically isolated himself through acts of what he called “habitual arrogance and treachery.”
He also took a swipe at Wike’s role in the 2023 general elections, alleging electoral manipulation in Rivers State, which, according to him, contradicts the principles of democracy.
“No one comes out boldly to claim credit for electoral fraud and goes free in informed societies. But that’s what Wike did,” Eze stated.
While criticizing Wike’s style and perceived political missteps, Eze praised him—albeit sarcastically—for highlighting Amaechi’s long-standing contributions to national politics.
“Thank you for acknowledging Amaechi’s 23 years of purposeful public service. It is a résumé built on substance, not noise,” he noted.
In a broader political commentary, Eze also addressed remarks made by presidential aides Olabamji Enitan Jowosimi and Lere Olayinka, who criticized Amaechi for distancing himself from Tinubu during the 2023 campaign.
According to Eze, the attacks failed to refute Amaechi’s concerns and instead exposed their inability to defend the administration’s shortcomings.
“They had nothing concrete to say. Instead of addressing the issue of Tinubu’s capacity, they chose to insult Amaechi. But history will remember the real progressives who built the APC,” Eze concluded.
