The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has disclosed a profound spiritual experience in which he said God warned him of dire consequences if he left the denomination.
Speaking during the Holy Ghost Service themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2)” held at the Redemption City in Ogun State, Pastor Adeboye told the congregation that God instructed him to remain in RCCG at all costs, warning that leaving would result in the death of his firstborn.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries making waves, and they were very good,” Adeboye recounted.
“There were different temptations to go from one to another. But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
The respected cleric shared this revelation while emphasizing the importance of divine direction and consistency in one’s spiritual journey.
Referencing a sermon delivered by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, he cautioned against the trend among young believers of frequently switching churches, often without seeking God’s guidance.
Adeboye explained that when he joined RCCG, the church was relatively unknown and headquartered in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
Despite being a university lecturer at the time, he obeyed God’s instruction to submit to the church’s spiritual leadership, even though his mentor had no formal education.
“I was a university lecturer. My father in the Lord didn’t attend secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he said.
He advised Christians, especially the youth, to identify the place God has appointed for their spiritual growth and remain steadfast in it.
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he urged.
Pastor Adeboye was careful to clarify that his statement was not a critique of other denominations, noting, “I am not saying we are better than any other denomination.”
