The Presidency has issued a firm caution to Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, over what it described as a series of reckless and unsubstantiated statements made during a recent television appearance.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, reacted strongly to Senator Ndume’s claims that a cabal had hijacked the current administration and that kleptocrats and kakistocrats were now at the helm of affairs.

Describing Ndume’s allegations as “sweeping and unproven,” Onanuga noted that the lawmaker’s remarks lacked credibility and substance, warning that such statements only serve to undermine public confidence.

“Ndume is entitled to his opinion as a member of the ruling party, but his tendency to get his facts wrong or rely on questionable premises weakens his argument,” Onanuga stated.

He further referenced a past instance where the senator allegedly misrepresented facts, including a false claim about former Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, being ambushed by terrorists.

“A ranking senator making reckless statements on national television cannot command the respect of any right-thinking person,” he said.

Reacting to Ndume’s use of the term kakistocrats, Onanuga questioned the senator’s understanding of the term and the basis for labeling public officials in such a manner.

“This President has surrounded himself with capable hands, many of whom were distinguished professionals in their respective fields before joining public service. They are working tirelessly to reposition the nation’s economy and place it on a path of sustainable growth,” he added.
