Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his commitment to upholding democratic principles, the rule of law, and the protection of fundamental human rights, despite ongoing political tensions in the state.
In a message to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day, Governor Fubara emphasized that his administration remains steadfast in promoting good governance anchored on transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness for all, irrespective of political leanings.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara reflected on the nation’s 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, calling for unity and cooperation among all political stakeholders to build a more inclusive and participatory society.
He acknowledged the recent political developments in Rivers State — including his suspension and that of other elected officials — as a reminder of the fragility of democratic institutions and the need for constant vigilance.
“Rivers State’s democratic journey has experienced both milestones and challenges. These underscore the importance of staying true to democratic values,” Fubara said.
He reaffirmed his government’s resolve to protect lives and property while promoting civil liberties, institutional oversight, and equitable representation.
Despite the ongoing crisis, Governor Fubara expressed optimism in the strength and resilience of the people of Rivers State, urging citizens to face the moment with courage, unity, and a renewed commitment to progress.
He also paid tribute to past leaders who laid the foundation for Nigeria’s democracy, encouraging citizens to honour their sacrifices by upholding justice, fairness, and responsibility.
Fubara concluded by expressing confidence that Rivers State will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger through the collective efforts of its people.
