The Ekiti State government has called on political stakeholders to uphold peace and conduct themselves with responsibility throughout the electoral process 2026 guber poll
This follows the release of the timetable and schedule of activities for the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which fixed the governorship poll for June 20, 2026, and scheduled party primaries between October 20 and November 10, 2025.
Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, the State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, urged political parties, candidates, supporters, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and the media to avoid inflammatory statements or actions capable of inciting unrest.
“Ekiti State has maintained a tradition of peaceful political engagement, and as we approach another electoral cycle, we must all rise above personal or partisan interests to protect the peace and unity of our dear state,” he said.
Olatunbosun emphasized that political discourse should remain issue-based and rooted in mutual respect, maturity, and democratic values.
He warned against hate speech, misinformation, and any form of provocation, noting that such acts would not be tolerated and could attract legal consequences.
He also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, religious institutions, and the media to serve as agents of peace and accountability during the period, stressing that the responsibility of safeguarding peace rests on every citizen.
“Peace is not a government responsibility alone; it is a collective duty,” he stated.
“We, therefore, call on all Ekiti sons and daughters to be ambassadors of peace before, during and after this election period.”
The commissioner further urged security agencies and INEC to remain impartial and vigilant in maintaining law and order, while assuring residents that the state government is committed to upholding the integrity of the democratic process and ensuring that the will of the people prevails.
