Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu never had a liking for him, even while both were members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

El-Rufai made the disclosure during an interview on Prime Time, a current affairs programme on Arise Television aired on Monday.

The former governor, who served under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, said he was more aligned with Buhari and other northern political figures than with President Tinubu.

“Bola Tinubu never really liked me, but we never really got along. In the party, I was Buhari’s boy,” El-Rufai stated.

1“The person I got along with was Baba Akande,” he added, referring to Chief Bisi Akande, former Osun State governor and APC stalwart.

El-Rufai, who also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under President Olusegun Obasanjo, went further to express doubts about the current Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leadership’s willingness to register a new political party.

He questioned the openness of INEC under Professor Mahmood Yakubu to accommodate a coalition movement similar to the APC formation in 2013.

He compared the current INEC chairman unfavourably with his predecessor, Professor Attahiru Jega, who oversaw the registration of the APC.
