President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with key stakeholders, including Nyesom Wike and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.

Also present at the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, were the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and several members of the Assembly.

Although the details of the meeting remain unclear as of press time, sources within the presidency described it as “fruitful” and a possible step toward restoring political stability in the state.

Earlier in the day, Fubara was also reported to have met privately with Speaker Amaewhule in Abuja, suggesting ongoing efforts behind the scenes to mend strained relationships.

The political rift between Wike and Fubara has dominated headlines for months, following accusations of betrayal, parallel legislative activities, and deepening divisions within the state’s ruling party.

President Tinubu had earlier declared a political state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara and other elected officials in a bid to prevent further unrest and maintain constitutional order.

While the outcome of Thursday’s meeting is yet to be officially disclosed, political observers are hopeful that it marks the beginning of a truce between the feuding parties and a return to normalcy in the oil-rich state.
