The Federal Government has re-appointed Alhaji Babagana Mustapha as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN) for a second four-year term
On Wednesday, while presenting the letter of re-appointment, The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziak Adekunle Salako praised Alhaji Babagana’s impactful leadership during his initial tenure, particularly highlighting his role in advancing the Board’s digital transformation.
Under his stewardship, the HRORBN has recorded significant progress in the modernization of health records governance in Nigeria.
Among the achievements noted are the successful digitalization of professional licensing examinations, a complete overhaul of the Board’s website to streamline license renewal and certification collection processes, and improved public access to professional services.
The Registrar has also led efforts in the accreditation of Health Information Management programmes across tertiary institutions—fostering standardization and capacity development in the profession.
Looking ahead, the Minister expressed optimism that the second tenure would consolidate these gains while embracing new opportunities for innovation.
He urged the Registrar to ensure the full inclusion of registered members in the national database and to intensify enforcement efforts against unregistered practitioners.
“This re-appointment is both a recognition of past performance and a challenge to do more. We expect deeper engagement, broader coverage, and continued accountability,” Dr. Salako said.
The renewed mandate signals the Federal Government’s continued commitment to institutional reform, data governance, and professional excellence in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
