The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has declared the traditional institution’s full support for the Kano State Government’s position on the ongoing constitutional amendment process—provided it reflects the collective will of the people.
Emir Sanusi made this known on Thursday while speaking at the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment.
The forum was organised as part of efforts to solicit input from diverse segments of the society toward a more inclusive and people-oriented review of Nigeria’s constitution.
Commending the initiative, the Emir said the decision to involve stakeholders in the reform process was commendable and necessary for true democratic progress.
“I want to commend the Government of Kano State for taking the step of inviting stakeholders to give their inputs into the process of constitutional amendment,” he said.
“For us as Emirs, whatever the government, in consultation with the people, decides will be the position of Kano. We will endorse it 100%.”
Sanusi noted that the traditional institution would take time to study the draft proposals and, if necessary, submit recommendations before the conclusion of the process.
“We will also look at the document—we know we have until Saturday—and if we have any input on the report, we shall invite the committee and present our suggestions for consideration before the final presentation,” he added.
