Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has explained his decision to return to Galatasaray, turning down big-money offers from other clubs in favour of a move driven by passion and loyalty.

The 26-year-old touched down in Istanbul on Tuesday night, July 30, 2025, to a hero’s welcome at Atatürk Airport. Thousands of fans gathered to celebrate his arrival, waving flags, chanting his name, and lighting flares.

Speaking to reporters shortly after landing, Osimhen said, “I’m home. Look at the crowd, look at the love. This is where I want to be.”

Osimhen had spent the previous season on loan at Galatasaray, where he made a huge impact by winning the league’s golden boot and helping the team secure the domestic title. His return follows successful negotiations between Galatasaray and Napoli, where he was under contract.

According to his agent, George Gardi, the transfer was complicated, but Osimhen’s desire to return to Galatasaray made the difference.

“Victor really wanted this move. It’s not about the money. It’s about what this club means to him,” Gardi said. “He had offers from other big clubs, but his heart was always with Galatasaray.”

The club also showed strong commitment, with Galatasaray Vice President Abdullah Kavukcu personally travelling to Germany to finalize the deal and fly Osimhen back to Türkiye.

Fans at the airport were treated to emotional scenes as Osimhen waved the club’s red-and-yellow flag, joined in the traditional “üçlü” chant, and met with supporters, including two disabled fans he warmly embraced and took photos with.

His return has reignited hopes for another strong season, with head coach Okan Buruk aiming for both domestic success and a solid run in the UEFA Champions League.

“The story continues,” Osimhen said. “And I’m proud it’s continuing here. I want to give my all for this badge.”
