The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved over N18.5 billion for the execution of various development projects across the state.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the approvals were made during the virtual State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti.

The projects cover areas such as road construction, electricity, water supply, sanitation, hygiene, agriculture, and security.

Olatunbosun disclosed that N10.115 billion was allocated for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Ita Ido-Ido Ile-Okemesi-Ikoro Road, a 17.4km stretch.

He said the road project is expected to ease transportation challenges, boost economic activities, and enhance security in the area.

He added that N1.1 billion was also approved for the construction of an access road to the new multipurpose building at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, to ensure better access to healthcare infrastructure.

In the tourism sector, the government approved N1.83 billion for the remodelling of the Adekunle Fajuyi Memorial Park.

The project aims to transform the park into an international tourism destination and honor the legacy of the late Lt. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi.

To improve water supply and hygiene, the council approved N1.5 billion for the Odo Oja Water Scheme in Ikere Ekiti.

The project will be carried out by Jadfem Nigeria Limited under the World Bank-supported SURWASH programme within 10 months.

In addition, the government approved N2.18 billion for extension works at the Arts and Cultural Centre in Ado Ekiti. This includes acquisition, remodeling, and reconstruction to promote youth creativity and job creation.

A sum of N515.9 million was also approved for the reconstruction of a failed culvert at Adekaitan Filling Station along Ilawe Road in Ado Ekiti, to improve road access and ensure public safety.

Furthermore, N998.2 million was earmarked for electricity-related projects, including solar-powered street lights, installation of transformers, power network rehabilitation, and a modular solar-powered irrigation system across various communities.

The state government says these projects align with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to infrastructure development and improved living standards for residents.
