Daniel Regha Urges Nigerians to Hold Governors and Lawmakers Accountable for Development Issue.
Social commentator Daniel Regha has urged Nigerians to better understand the structure of government and demand greater accountability from their state governors and elected lawmakers, rather than placing the entire blame on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement via his X account, Regha noted that while the federal government can be blamed for the lingering insecurity in the country, the lack of basic social amenities such as good roads, clean water, and palliative distribution falls under the purview of state governments and legislators representing the people.
“Tinubu’s government can mostly be blamed for the persisting insecurity challenges. But when it comes to roads and other social amenities, hold your governors more accountable. You also have lawmakers in the National Assembly representing your constituencies and states. What are they doing?”
He criticized citizens who appear unaware of the responsibilities of the three tiers of government, pointing out that federal allocations, donations, and internally generated revenues are handled by state governments and should be accounted for accordingly.
“The monthly allocations, palliatives, donations, and revenues generated by your state governments — is it Aso Rock that will account for them?” he asked.
Regha also addressed the issue of ethnic scapegoating in public discourse, warning against shifting blame to specific groups when state-level leadership is often indigenous.
“Many people rant online like their states are being governed by non-indigenes. How many of you can even boast of good roads in your state? Better start thinking properly,” he added.
