Political activist and public affairs analyst, Mahdi Shehu, has issued a strong warning about the 2027 general elections, describing the coming political season as dark, dangerous, and full of uncertainty.
In a post shared on Sunday via X, Shehu said the political atmosphere ahead of the next elections is shaping up to be highly tense and unpredictable.
He noted that the mix of politicians preparing to contest in 2027 is alarming. “When characters with different history, similar records, diverse views, and unending appetite for power seek to dominate the political platform once again, one should expect a dangerous terrain,” he wrote.
Shehu further stated that when former political enemies unite solely for the purpose of grabbing power, it is a sign of looming chaos.
“When sworn enemies and documented rivals bury their enmity for the sole aim of grabbing power in an already polarised polity, then one should expect nothing short of chaos,” he warned.
He also criticised politicians who had past opportunities to serve the people but failed, yet are returning to the scene for selfish interests.
According to him, such moves will only lead to further darkness in the nation’s politics.
Mahdi Shehu warned that desperate politicians will likely resort to all forms of manipulation—ranging from the use of money and intimidation to blackmail, arrest, and even political violence—to achieve their goals.
Despite his gloomy outlook, he reminded Nigerians that the ultimate outcome rests in the hands of God. “The Almighty God has already decided who will be what, no matter the chaos or desperation,” he added.
