Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has criticised political candidates who pledge to serve only one term in office, describing such promises as deceitful and unreasonable.

Speaking at an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign rally in Awka, Soludo stated that any politician making such a promise should undergo psychiatric evaluation.

“There is zoning in Anambra. After I complete eight years as governor, the next should come from Anambra Central. Anyone from Anambra South contesting again is attempting to disrupt this arrangement,” he said.

Soludo questioned the sincerity of politicians claiming they would serve only one term, asking, “Where in Nigeria has that ever worked? If the constitution allows up to eight years, why deceive the people with one term?”

He went further to say, “Such a person should be sent to a mental home. It’s an insult to the intelligence of the people.”

The governor also warned against candidates without proper academic qualifications, saying Anambra cannot be governed by “street urchins or people without valid certificates.”
