Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that no political party other than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can secure electoral victory in the state.
Makinde made the statement on Monday during the official presentation of the PDP flag to the party’s candidate, Fola Oyekunle, for the forthcoming bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
The event, held at Bodija International Market in Ibadan, drew a large crowd of party loyalists and supporters.
The bye-election, scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, will take place across the twelve wards that make up the federal constituency.
While addressing the gathering, Makinde dismissed the chances of rival political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP), asserting that they no longer have the political strength to win elections in Oyo State.
“This forthcoming election is very important because we all need to prove a point that Oyo State is a PDP state,” Makinde said. “From now on, as you campaign across wards and homes, if anyone tells you another party can win in this state, tell them it is not possible.”
He emphasized that the people remain his only political base, adding, “I don’t have any godfather. The people are my godfather.”
The Governor urged residents of the constituency to support the PDP and ensure victory for the party’s candidate, saying it would reinforce the party’s growing influence and dominance across the state.
