Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has reportedly gone on strike at Atalanta, escalating tensions over his proposed move to Inter Milan.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international has now missed two consecutive pre-season training sessions following a transfer request he submitted over the weekend.
In a strongly worded statement posted on Instagram, Lookman accused the Serie A club of “broken promises” and “poor treatment,” expressing frustration over the handling of his future.
“Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed, sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,” Lookman wrote.
He added: “After many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right. I feel that enough is enough.”
Reports indicate Inter Milan had submitted an improved bid worth up to €45 million, including add-ons, which was turned down by Atalanta. The Bergamo-based club is reportedly holding out for €50 million.
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi confirmed that the club had an agreement in place to allow Lookman to leave—but only to a “top club” outside Italy.
“The pact with Lookman was made a year ago, when we refused a €20 million offer from PSG,” Percassi stated. “The club is always careful when evaluating the value and timing of its players, but as always, it is Atalanta, the club, that decides.”
