Tragedy has struck the political landscape of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area as Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai, representing Ward C1, passed away just two weeks after being sworn into office.

Rufai, the only female councillor in the newly inaugurated Ibeju-Lekki legislative council, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday following a brief illness. Her sudden death has left the community in shock, cutting short what many described as a promising political career.

In a statement mourning her demise, Seye Oladejo, spokesperson for the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC), paid tribute to the late councillor, describing her as a “rising star who embodied commitment, grassroots service, and gender inclusion.”

Oladejo noted that despite her short time in office, Rufai demonstrated remarkable dedication to community development and loyalty to the party’s ideals.

“We are heartbroken by this loss, and we extend our deepest condolences to her immediate family, the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, her constituents in Ward C1, and all who had the privilege of working with her. Her legacy of service, courage, and vision will not be forgotten,” the statement read.

The APC also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the values Rufai championed during her service.
