Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a prominent community leader, Alhaji Gomina, in Lade, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Sunday night shortly after the victim observed the Isha’i (evening) prayers at a local mosque.

According to eyewitnesses, Alhaji Gomina was ambushed by the assailants on his way home. He was shot dead on the spot, while the attackers fled the scene immediately after.

The killing has thrown Lade and neighbouring communities into mourning, with residents describing the deceased as a respected leader who dedicated his life to religious and community service.

Meanwhile, fear of further attacks has forced many villagers across Patigi, Edu, and parts of Ifelodun and Ekiti Local Government Areas to abandon their homes, raising concerns about worsening insecurity in the region.

Community members have called on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to curb banditry and restore peace, warning that continued attacks could lead to more displacement.
